Whistle It Sports Gloves was established in August 2014, by life-long Welsh Rugby Player, UKCC Level 3 Rugby Union Coach and WRU Level 2 Rugby Union Referee Brian Patterson. Brian started referring in 2002 and has satisfied his passion for rugby by combining the roles of a coach and referee.

Brian felt there was a need to dispense with the lanyard attached to a whistle which all referees used at the time and to date. Nearly all referees hold a whistle between their thumb and index finger whilst refereeing. Brian identified that a tether stitched to a glove in the required position would make the access to the whistle far easier and user friendly. As most sports are played in cold climates at some period, the added value of the glove would be the warmth element to the user. Having qualified as a Level 3 coach in 2007, Brian also realised that his glove would be extremely beneficial to coaches, who could also perform other tasks while still wearing the glove. A patent was lodged in January 2009, and granted in July 2013. During this period a number of designs were explored and refined resulting in todays final product.

Endorsed by RWC 2015 Final Referee Mr Nigel Owens, who has been involved with the product since 2010. Mr Owens first wore the glove in November 2010 in a LV Cup match in Northampton and has recently worn the glove in the School of Hard Knocks Sky TV programme in March 2015 and says it’s “A Must for the Kit Bag”.

Whistle It Sports Gloves are now available to share with other sports enthusiasts across the world.
